Disclaimer

The official RegMount diving safety disclaimer plus the terms that govern use of our regulator camera mount, our website and our educational dive content.

Last updated: October 9, 2026

RegMount makes a regulator-mounted camera adapter for scuba divers. We are divers ourselves, and we take the realities of diving seriously. This Disclaimer explains the limits of our responsibility, the responsibilities you accept as a diver and product user, and how to read the information we publish on regmount.com. Please read it in full before installing or diving with any RegMount product. It should be read together with our Terms and Conditions, Limited Warranty and Privacy Policy.

Official RegMount Diving Safety Disclaimer

The following statement is included with our product and applies to every RegMount adapter, clamp, accessory and replacement part we sell:

Diving safety disclaimer: It is the responsibility of the user/scuba diver to familiarize themselves with the RegMount prior to use. NSS-CDS standards require a minimum of 100 dives in an overhead environment prior to using any additional equipment due to task loading. Assembly of the RegMount on personal equipment is the sole responsibility of the user. RegMount is not responsible for damaged or lost equipment during use and/or installation. Please dive safely.

Everything else on this page expands on that statement. If anything here appears to conflict with it, the official disclaimer above controls.

Assumption of Risk in Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is an inherently hazardous activity. Even well-trained, well-equipped divers can be exposed to decompression sickness, arterial gas embolism, barotrauma, drowning, hypothermia, entanglement, marine life injuries, out-of-air emergencies, equipment malfunction and boat-related accidents. Many of these risks exist regardless of the equipment you choose, and some can be made worse by distraction, poor buoyancy control or overconfidence.

By purchasing, installing or using a RegMount product, you acknowledge that:

  • You understand that scuba diving carries a risk of serious injury or death.
  • You voluntarily accept those risks, including any risks associated with attaching a camera, light or other accessory to your regulator.
  • You are solely responsible for deciding whether, when and how to use a RegMount on any given dive.
  • You will follow the training, standards and procedures of the agency that certified you, plus the briefings of any dive operator you dive with.

Attaching a camera to your second stage changes the feel of the regulator in your mouth and adds a small amount of weight and drag at the front of your face. Before relying on it in open water, get comfortable with it in a pool or confined-water setting: breathe through it, purge it, remove and replace it, and practice your out-of-air and regulator-recovery skills with the camera attached.

Training and Certification

RegMount products are intended only for certified scuba divers who are diving within the limits of their training and experience. Our products are not a substitute for training and do not qualify anyone to dive in conditions beyond their certification level.

  • Get certified first. Only use RegMount on dives you are certified and current to perform.
  • Stay current. If you have not dived recently, complete a refresher or skills review before adding a camera to your kit.
  • Master buoyancy before filming. Stable, neutral buoyancy and good trim protect you, your buddy and the reef. A camera should never become the reason you lose control of your depth.
  • Keep buddy procedures intact. Recording should never replace regular buddy checks, signals, air-sharing readiness and staying together.

Never exceed your training: Owning a hands-free camera mount does not make deeper, longer, colder, darker or more technical dives any safer. Plan every dive around your certification and experience, not around the shot you want to get.

Task Loading and Overhead Environments

Task loading is the gradual accumulation of tasks and stressors that competes for a diver’s attention. Monitoring gas supply, depth, time, buoyancy, buddy position, navigation and the environment already demands a lot. Any camera, even a hands-free one, adds something more to think about. That is why our official disclaimer references the cave diving community’s approach to added equipment.

NSS-CDS 100 overhead dives guidance

The National Speleological Society Cave Diving Section (NSS-CDS) standards call for a minimum of 100 dives in an overhead environment before using any additional equipment, because of task loading. We adopt that guidance in our official disclaimer. In practice, that means:

  • Do not use a RegMount, a camera or any other non-essential accessory in caves, caverns, wreck penetrations or other overhead environments until you have met that experience threshold and hold the appropriate overhead certification.
  • Even once you meet it, consider whether a particular dive is the right time to film. Silt-outs, line work, restrictions and gas management take priority over footage.
  • Any accessory must never interfere with the deployment of your long hose, backup regulator, lights or line-following.

Practical task-loading guidelines for open water

  • Introduce the camera on easy, familiar dives in good conditions before taking it anywhere challenging.
  • Start recording before you descend so there is less to manage at depth.
  • If conditions deteriorate, ignore the camera completely. You can always edit out boring footage; you cannot undo a bad decision.
  • Agree with your buddy that filming will never interrupt dive planning, gas checks or ascents.

For more detail, see our article on task loading and safe use of camera accessories and our guide to filming wreck and overhead dives responsibly.

Installation Responsibility

Assembly and installation of a RegMount on your personal equipment is your sole responsibility. We publish an installation and assembly guide to help, but you are responsible for confirming that the adapter, clamp, protective silicone band and comfort chin stabilizer are correctly fitted on your specific regulator before every dive.

  • Inspect the regulator and the mount before each dive for cracks, corrosion, loose parts or wear.
  • Tighten the stainless steel clamp securely but do not over-tighten it. Excessive force can damage the regulator housing or the mount. Note that the clamp uses a metric nut.
  • Confirm that the purge button, exhaust tee and mouthpiece all function normally with the mount installed.
  • Do not modify, cut, drill or alter your regulator or any RegMount component.
  • If you are unsure about any part of installation, have a qualified regulator technician or your local dive shop check your setup.

Regulator service: Installing an accessory on your regulator does not replace the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule. Keep your regulator serviced by a qualified technician and remove the RegMount before sending the regulator for service.

Equipment Compatibility

RegMount is designed to fit most scuba regulators with a second-stage body diameter of 2 3/8″ to 3 1/8″ (60 to 80 mm), and to hold action cameras that use the standard GoPro-style mounting interface. Regulator designs vary widely, however, and manufacturers change their products over time. We cannot guarantee compatibility with every regulator, camera housing, light or accessory on the market.

Before you buy and before you dive, check your regulator against our fit guide and fit checker. If your second stage falls outside the supported range, has an unusual shape, or has controls that would be obstructed, do not use the mount on that regulator. Compatibility questions can be sent to us at any time through our contact page.

No Liability for Damaged or Lost Equipment

As stated in our official disclaimer, RegMount is not responsible for damaged or lost equipment during use and/or installation. This includes, without limitation, cameras, camera housings, memory cards, batteries, lights, regulators, mouthpieces, hoses and any other gear you attach to or use with a RegMount product.

A RegMount keeps your camera in view and close to your face, which many divers find makes losing a camera far less likely. Nothing, however, can eliminate that risk entirely. We strongly recommend using a secondary retention method such as a camera safety tether, and reading our guide on how to avoid losing an action camera underwater.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, RegMount is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from use of our products. Our product warranty coverage is described separately in our Limited Warranty.

Informational Content Disclaimer

Our blog articles, videos, guides, FAQ answers and social media posts are written for general educational purposes. They reflect the experience of divers and underwater videographers, but they are not a substitute for formal training from a recognized dive agency, hands-on instruction, or the manufacturer’s documentation for your equipment.

  • Camera settings, lighting suggestions and editing workflows are starting points; results depend on your camera model, firmware, water conditions and skill.
  • Safety information is summarized and may not cover every situation. Always defer to your training agency’s standards and your instructor’s guidance.
  • Regulations on spearfishing, marine protected areas, travel and battery transport change. Verify current rules with the relevant authority before you rely on anything you read here.
