Here are answers to the questions divers ask us most about RegMount, the regulator camera mount that puts your action camera on your second stage for hands-free, true point-of-view footage. If your question isn’t covered here, contact us. Real divers will answer, usually within 1–2 business days.
Product & Compatibility
What is RegMount?
RegMount is the world’s only regulator-mounted video camera adapter. It attaches your action camera directly to your regulator’s second stage, in front of the exhaust. Because the regulator follows your head, the camera points where you look, so you get true POV footage without exhaust bubbles in the frame, and your hands stay free.
Which cameras work with RegMount?
RegMount works with all versions of GoPro cameras and similar underwater action cameras that use the standard GoPro-style mount (the two- or three-finger mount with a thumb screw). If your camera uses a different mounting system, a GoPro-style adapter for that camera will usually bridge the gap. GoPro is a trademark of GoPro, Inc. RegMount is not affiliated with or endorsed by GoPro, Inc.
Will RegMount fit my regulator?
RegMount fits most scuba regulators with a second-stage body diameter of 2 3/8″–3 1/8″ (60–80 mm). That covers most recreational second stages. Use the fit checker and measuring instructions on our Regulator Fit Guide, and contact us if you’re near either end of the range or have an unusual housing shape.
What’s included in the RegMount kit?
The RegMount Regulator Camera Mount kit includes the RegMount adapter, a custom stainless steel clamp (black), a protective silicone band, and a comfort chin stabilizer. It ships free within the U.S.
What’s the Accessory Pack for?
The RegMount Accessory Pack gives you everything you need to fine-tune your camera’s position for the best POV angle: a J-hook adapter, 3M adhesive and a universal base clip mount. Many divers buy it with the kit as the Complete Diver Kit, which costs less than buying both separately.
Can I use RegMount on my octopus?
Yes, if your octopus (alternate air source) second stage is within the 60–80 mm range. Divers use it on the octo for selfies, buddy shots and probing under rock shelves and ledges. Always brief your buddy, keep the octo correctly stowed, and make sure nothing delays its deployment or blocks the purge or exhaust in an emergency.
Can I mount a dive light instead of a camera?
Yes. Many divers use RegMount as a light mount, so the beam follows their gaze. Any light with a GoPro-style mount, or a mount adapter, will work. Keep it small and light enough to stay comfortable in your mouth. See our underwater lighting guide for help choosing one.
Does RegMount block my purge button or exhaust?
No. When it’s installed correctly, you keep complete access to your purge button, and the exhaust stays fully open. The camera sits in front of the exhaust, so bubbles rise behind the lens. Always check both before every dive.
Does RegMount work with a camera in a dive housing?
Yes. Most divers mount their camera in its waterproof housing or dive frame, and the housing’s GoPro-style mount attaches to RegMount like any other. A smaller, lighter housing is more comfortable on your regulator. Always check the housing’s own depth rating and seals before each dive.
Can I use RegMount for snorkeling or freediving?
RegMount is designed to clamp onto a scuba regulator second stage, so it’s meant for scuba diving. When you snorkel or freedive, there’s no second stage to mount it on. For those activities, use a mount designed for breath-hold diving.
Is RegMount suitable for spearfishing?
RegMount was originally designed for spearfishing. Hunters needed a camera mount that was completely hands-free, simple, and always visible. If you spearfish on scuba where that’s legal, it’s ideal for recording hunts. Always follow local fishing regulations. Read more in recording your spearfishing hunts.
Installation & Use
How hard is RegMount to install?
It’s simple and takes a few minutes. You fit the silicone band around the second stage, position the adapter, secure it with the stainless clamp, attach the chin stabilizer, and mount your camera. Our installation and assembly guide walks through every step.
What tools do I need?
A metric wrench, nut driver or socket for the clamp nut, plus whatever you normally use to tighten your camera’s thumb screw. The clamp uses a metric nut, not a standard (imperial) size, so use the right tool to avoid rounding off the nut.
Can I move RegMount between regulators?
Yes. Loosen the metric nut, move the band, adapter and clamp to the other second stage, and re-tighten until snug. Each time you move it, recheck purge access, exhaust clearance and camera angle, and test it before open water. If you switch often, a spare clamp makes things easier.
How tight should the clamp be?
Snug, not over-tight. The adapter shouldn’t twist when you push it firmly by hand. Overtightening can deform the silicone band, mark the regulator housing or put stress on the case.
Do I need to remove RegMount between dives?
No. Most divers leave RegMount on the regulator and just clip the camera on and off. That’s the “No more waiting” benefit: attach your camera and go. Rinse everything in fresh water after each diving day.
Is it uncomfortable to hold a camera on my regulator?
Most divers adapt in one or two dives. The comfort chin stabilizer rests lightly on your chin and shares the load, so your jaw doesn’t hold it all. A lighter housing or frame and a correctly adjusted stabilizer make the biggest difference. If you feel jaw fatigue, see the troubleshooting table in our installation guide.
My footage points at the sand. What should I change?
Tilt the camera up a few degrees on the mount, or use the J-hook from the Accessory Pack to adjust the angle. Also check your trim: if you swim head-down, the camera will point down too. Horizontal trim gives the best POV footage.
How do I know my camera is recording?
That’s one of RegMount’s main benefits. The camera sits just below your mask in your natural field of view, so a quick glance shows the recording light or screen. Make it a habit to check after descending and after any pause.
What camera settings should I use?
That depends on your camera, depth and water conditions. As a starting point, see our guide to the best GoPro settings for scuba diving and our color correction and filters guide.
How do I care for RegMount?
Rinse it in fresh water after every diving day, together with your regulator and camera, and let it dry in the shade. Check the band for cracks and the clamp for tightness and corrosion regularly. Replacement clamps and chin stabilizers are sold separately.
Diving Safety
Is it safe to mount a camera on my regulator?
RegMount was designed to keep your regulator working the way it should: the purge button stays accessible and the exhaust stays clear. As with any added equipment, you’re responsible for installing it correctly, getting familiar with it in a pool or confined water first, and checking it before every dive. If anything interferes with breathing, purging or exhausting, don’t dive with it.
What should I do if I need to switch to my buddy’s octopus or my own alternate?
Follow your training. RegMount doesn’t change standard out-of-air procedures. Practice regulator recovery and air-sharing drills with the camera mounted, in confined water, so you know how the setup feels when you remove and replace the regulator. Consider a camera safety tether so the camera stays with you whatever happens.
Does filming add task loading?
Yes, any camera does. Filming competes for your attention with gas, depth, time, buoyancy and your buddy. Only film on dives well within your training and comfort level, and make the dive your priority. Our article on task loading and camera gear covers this in detail. Divers Alert Network (DAN) is also an excellent safety resource.
Can I use RegMount in caves or inside wrecks?
Only if you’re properly trained and experienced for that environment. Our official guidance: NSS-CDS standards require a minimum of 100 dives in an overhead environment prior to using any additional equipment due to task loading. Never enter an overhead environment beyond your training. See filming wreck and overhead dives responsibly.
What’s the official RegMount safety disclaimer?
It is the responsibility of the user/scuba diver to familiarize themselves with the RegMount prior to use. NSS-CDS standards require a minimum of 100 dives in an overhead environment prior to using any additional equipment due to task loading. Assembly of the RegMount on personal equipment is the sole responsibility of the user. RegMount is not responsible for damaged or lost equipment during use and/or installation. Please dive safely. See our full disclaimer.
How deep can I use RegMount?
RegMount is built for recreational diving use. Your depth limits are set by your training and certification, your gas plan, and your camera housing’s own depth rating. Always follow whichever limit is most conservative.
